“The Semantic Web, with its power to add explicit meaning to data can revolutionize science. Today, most scientific data is scattered around the Web across a multitude of data silos that cannot be shared nor allow users simple access. The Semantic Web will tear down the walls of these silos enabling data to be free and meaningful”
About Us
Chemical Semantics is a new initiative undertaken by two theoretical chemists and experienced IT and scientific entrepreneurs: Mirek Sopek, PhD – founder of MakoLab SA and Neil Ostlund, PhD – founder of Hypercube, Inc., the company behind the world renowned molecular modeling software, HyperChem.
The aim of Chemical Semantics is to provide a semantic framework for publishing and accessing data from the field of computational chemistry. The two main projects to be developed are:
- Publishing Software that allows scientists, principally computational chemists and biochemists, to publish their data in a semantic fashion;
- Agent Software, which allows researchers to access the uploaded data and utilize semantic techniques such as inference of new results on the basis of the global data.
With the combination of MakoLab’s expertise in the area of the Semantic Web and general Web Development, and the unmatched experience of HyperCube in the field of scientific software, Chemical Semantics hopes to bring about a true revolution in the methodology used by chemical enterprises, particularly chemical research and publication.
